K J Somaiya Institute of Management Studies and Research, which started in 1981, offers doctoral programme in management of University of Mumbai and SNDT Women’s University (for women candidates only) and several fulltime and parttime Masters and Post Graduate programmes approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), a body of Ministry of HRD, Govt. of India. and / or affiliated to University of Mumbai. The Institute is certified as ISO 9001:2000 since 2000 and is ranked among the top 20 B-schools in India.

SIMSR 2012 Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the Ph.D. Programme, a person must be a post-graduate from University of Mumbai/ SNDT Women’s University or any other Indian or foreign university which is recognized by the UGC as equivalent to the Post-graduate programme offered by the university concerned to which the admission is being sought for. Typical Post-Graduation programmes include M.A., M.Com, M.Sc, M.E/ M.Tech, M.S., M.Pharm, etc. Those who did M.Phil. are also eligible to apply. As far the percentage of marks is concerned, a candidate must have 55% or more at the post-graduation level. However, given the competition, the Institute prefers a candidate to have consistently good academic record throughout (i.e., at least 60% or more all through from SSC to PG). At least two years of work experience is required in a relevant organization if a person is applying immediately after the Post-graduation qualification. Published research work is a desirable qualification. Candidates who completed PGDM Programme offered by the IIMs or any other reputed Institutes in India or abroad require to submit a copy of semester/ trimester-wise subjects studied along with detailed syllabi to the Institute which will be forwarded to the respective Universities to approve the equivalence of the programme with the Master’s degree offered by the University concerned. The lady applicants are encouraged to apply for the Ph.D. Programme of SNDT Women’s University, which is not open to admitting the gents as research scholars.

SIMSR 2012 Syllabus

The Research Aptitude Test will include: Reasoning ability (15% weightage) Analytical ability (15% weightage) Critical thinking (20% weightage) language comprehension (25% weightage) Elementary mathematics ability ((20% weightage) Perseverance (5% weightage) The test will be prepared by an Inter-Disciplinary Expert Committee consisting of experts from all faculties. Subject-Specific Test The Subject-specific Test will include: Objective questions (30 marks) Short answer questions {Approximately 250 words per answer} (30 marks) Long answer questions (40 marks)
