Union Health Ministry has received a proposal seeking necessary grants to allow 29000 more medical seats in India. 18000 seats will be for undergraduate courses and 11000 seats are for postgraduate courses; this proposal is the part of 12th five year plan.
30 new medical colleges will be set up across different states by 2017. India currently produces 30,000 doctors, 18,000 specialists, 30,000 AYUSH doctors, 54,000 nurses, 15,000 ANMs and 36,000 pharmacists annually.
The above numbers are set to increase soon.
